HotMail Sharing Member Email Addresses
http://www.peacefire.org/hotmail/sharing-addresses.shtml
After receiving complaints from HotMail users about junk mail in accounts that had never been "publicised" anywhere, we found that HotMail was sharing its member email addresses with InfoSpace.com, which makes the addresses available on its Web site where they can be "harvested" by third parties, including spammers. The statement on the InfoSpace Web site -- "For privacy, we don't show the full email addresses of people listed in our directories" -- turned out not to be correct, since HotMail provides its users with a search interface that allows them to harvest the email addresses of users listed on InfoSpace, including other HotMail users. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever wanted tables side by side?

In the left table, right-click, then:
Click Table Properties
Click the Style button
Click the Format button
Click Position
Click Left

Do the same for the other table, except specify 'right' if you want it over the other side of the page.
This may not work in Netscape as we are using absolute positioning. I don't have Netscape so I can't test it, however it looks ok in IE5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Someone wanted to know where to find FrontPage Express (FPE). This was featured in a previous Ezine but it keeps coming up in the FP community so I'll repeat it here once more.

Microsoft is no longer supporting FrontPage Express (FPE) and it will no longer be available for download from the Microsoft site and have discontinued the Newsgroup.

You cannot use the Add/Remove programs tool in Control Panel to install FrontPage Express after Windows 98 second edition is installed. If you try to downgrade to an earlier version of IE 5, the same problem occurs. No custom install, no FPE. FPE does not come with Office 2000 this is a concern for many educational facilities and not a few others as well. There is a workaround solution however.

Take out an old Magazine disc that has IE 5.0 on it (or below) and do a search for this file!

Fpesetup.cab

Once you have found it, open it up with WinZip and extract all the files to a new directory of your choice, and then double click on the fpxpress.exe file in the directory you extracted all the files to and you will have a copy of FPE.

So you can have IE 5.5 and a free version of FrontPage!

NOTE: The 'file new' command and 'help' do not work with installing FPE in this manner. You are not going to miss the help so don't worry about it. For further help with FPE check out the FPE section on AccessFP.
http://accessfp.net/fpexpress.htm

As for the 'File new' command just make a blank.htm file and then click file open, open the blank.htm and make your page with it. It works just as good as 'File New'.

or there are these sites. (Disclaimer - I merely point out the urls)

4 Guest Article - P.O.D
------------------------------------

Have you ever fancied your very own search engine? Ever wondered how to go about it? Well read on and found out.

Personal Open Directory (POD)
http://www.grohol.com/downloads/
The script is named Personal Open Directory (POD) and was written by John M. Grohol. There are Netscape and Dmoz versions.

This script can be seen working at http://www.virtualpromote.com/jwod/pod.cgi

To configure the script you will have to open up the cgi with FTP (using a third party FTP package such as WS_Lite) and work ONLY on the cgi bin. You must NOT touch the rest of the site or you will corrupt the FrontPage extensions. Or you can host it on another site that you can ftp to and tie it into your site via the navigation as per the following tip: This might be better anyway because it will rapidly fill up your hosting space, obtaining some free hosting would be a good idea.

Use a System Variable to Redirect to Another Page from the navigation bar.
http://www.accessfp.net/tip3.htm  Tip 7
For FP98.

Or as in the case of FrontPage 2000.

Use External Hyperlink.
http://www.accessfp.net/fp2k-tips.htm  Tip 5

You can use the Search engine in conjunction with the Open Directory Project http://dmoz.org/

This will give you a head start with thousands of vetted URLs. The Directory can be downloaded to your own site and the format it works in is RDF (Resource Description Framework) To find out more see:
http://www.ccil.org/~cowan/XML/RDF-made-easy.html

With this you can make a bespoke directory (see above) however you must comply with the License agreement and acknowledge the ODP on your site.

To set all this up you must design a template with a space left for the directory using tables is the best solution.

Digital Windmill
http://www.digitalwindmill.com/
Has a sample of code that can be pasted into the space left for the directory. For this to work for users they must have JavaScript enabled in their browsers. Digital Windmill's script and server keeps the searching and generation of results up-to-date so you don't have to. You can tweak the look of the directory by using style sheets.

Did I mention all this is FREE? I highly recommend it!

6 FEATURED SITE OF THE WEEK
------------------------------------

If you know of a site that is worthy of being featured in AccessFP Bytes submit it today at:

Featuredbytes@accessfp.net

You must include the name, url and a description about the site and why you think it's a good resource to have. Along with your recommendation should be YOUR name and site url.

If your recommended site is featured it goes into a draw for in three months time and the winner will receive a TOP ad space in the monthly AccessFP Ezine.

Featured Site-------I was wondering who to feature and then Chris Pirillo of http://www.lockergnome.com  sent me a link to Scobleizer's latest article, so that was this section sorted!

As regards the article, I agree with the basic premise that GUI does not prepare you for a life of web crafting if you use GUI programs solely from day one. However I would add this to the article. The trick is to ferret underneath all the hype of GUI and EXPERIMENT, experiment, experiment. Pick a project and learn, some learn faster some slower. What web crafting boils down to at the end of the day is:
#1 Have you enjoyed yourself?
#2 What have you learnt today?
#3 Always realise it's not the tools; it's the 'nut behind the wheel'. YOU, you make the difference, it all depends on YOUR drive, your talent and your will to 'Make it happen'. So use FrontPage as it's meant to be used, as a mere tool to YOUR imagination, once you feel confident start learning html etc etc etc.

http://scobleizer.manilasites.com/
Scobleizer evaluates the state of GUI Web building tools (and reveals his thoughts on the new FrontPage XP)

Read the article and investigate the examples put forward, this article is guaranteed to be thought provoking
