DID YOU KNOW THAT?

I was asked how to save a thumbnail to a floppy. Here's how.

When you make the thumbnail in fp and save the page a file
is then saved for example. Your big graphic is called
images/mypic.gif and a thumbnail is made called
images/mypic_small.gif

NOTE: when making a thumbnail the thumbnail will take on the
same name as the big graphic and insert _small as well.

Open up your A:/ drive and click File | Save As and navigate
to yoursite/images/mypic_small.gif then save.

You save it as you would any other file, you can check the
name of your file if your not sure by right clicking on it
(in FrontPage) and choosing image properties the path will
be visible in the pop up box.

We know that to obtain single spacing while writing content one presses enter while holding down the shift key (Shift + Enter) However what happens if you want to reformat text already written?

1) Highlight what you want to become single-spaced. Do a Select All from the Edit menu if you want the entire document to be that way.
2) Click on Format, then Paragraph
3) Change the Spacing Before and Spacing After to zeros.
4) Click on Line Spacing, then Single
5) Click on OK

To make this work you must make the spacing before and after a zero you can also make it a 1, which will bring it slightly further apart.

If you want to point your htm files to a external CSS (cascading style sheet) file do the following.

Open up your page in FrontPage | Format | style sheet links |
Click either 'Selected pages(s)' or 'All pages' radio button
Click ADD button
Navigate to the style sheet (.css file) that you want linked on the page
Select the file and click OK. Then Click OK in the Link Style Sheet dialog box.

FP will add the code to the head section to link this style sheet.
The code looks similar to:

(<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="styles.css">)

****Exclude brackets******

You could paste the code in the head tags section but for all
your pages using FrontPage to automate this chore makes
sense. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wassup at the AccessFP List? Find out every week here or join at the link above and find out for yourself.

Linda Johnson our AccessFP Stalwart would like to announce
the below see if you can help her out.

I have recently been contracted by www.intellectua.com  to write an ebook on Starting a Career as a Software Trainer for a new website they are launching called Dream Jobs To Go. (not sure how much of a dream job this really is, but they seem to think so....LOL). Anyway, in this book I must include some interviews with people who are currently employed or self-employed as software trainers, either full-time or as part-time tutors, etc., so I am soliciting volunteers to complete a questionnaire for me. If anyone would be interested in doing this for me (or forwarding my request on to any software trainers you know), I would greatly appreciate it. Obviously, the person and their website would be acknowledged in the book.

Please contact me at linda@personal-computer-tutor.com
if you are interested.

Steven Fredette of http://www.prowebsites.net
Told us about NBCi and their new requirements for Java, this is what they have to say about it.

"Changes made to the server code some month's ago now require certain changes to java applets when viewed through MSIE. To resolve the problem with your applets, you'll need to add the full path to the code base in the opening applet tag, as well as all image references within your applet." For those that are new this is about all Java Applets, not just Hover Buttons.

To add to this nugget of knowledge one of our other Linda's known as tlady http://www.tlady.clara.net/Apps1/Apps1.htm
(Who happens to know one or two things about applets) told us where to find out more about servers requiring code bases for applets - Gagf's excellent help pages at:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PageTools is a set of four utilities that enhance the capabilities of Microsoft FrontPage. In this tutorial, we will take a look at how each one is used, what it does, and how it saves you precious time.
The first utility, called Template Copier allows users to set-up a unified look for their FrontPage web quickly and easily. Hey, I know what you're thinking - FrontPage already does this through Themes and Shared Borders. Although that's true, keep in mind that FrontPage will set-up colours, fonts, and other elements for you through the use of Themes / Shared Borders, but it won't make use of a complete layout that includes custom graphics, JavaScript's, or other elements such as tables, that you would like to include as part of every page in your site. Even if you purchase a theme, like the ones offered at paulsfrontpagethemes.com or outfront.net, you'll find yourself copying & pasting their template (which in turn uses their theme) from page to page. This is ok for a small site, but when you're dealing with a large project, it can become a chore really quickly.
Theme Copier eliminates that problem by automating the copy & paste process. Like most FrontPage developers, your first stop when creating a new site will probably be the Navigation View. This view allows you to set-up a diagram of how your visitors surf through your site. Based on that, FrontPage creates blank HTML documents for each page in the Navigation View. Once this is done, a theme is picked (if applicable), which automatically sets up colours, fonts, and some CSS elements, as well as prepares specific graphics to be used for buttons, page banners, bullets, etc.
The next step is to take one of these blank pages and turn into a complete layout, in many cases, combining custom graphics along with elements of the FrontPage theme. Tables are created to house the content, and Cascading Style Sheets are setup to control how certain HTML tags are handled. For example, I like to use "Justified" paragraphs, and generally set this up through CSS. At times also, there is an animation (Flash, or JavaScript, or DHTML) that is used as part of a logo. This would go into your template as well.
Now that the template is complete, with all common elements on the page, its time to test it in as many browsers as necessary to assure compatibility among different operating systems and browser versions.
Once the template has been found to have no errors, the next step will be to use Template Copier to clone all of the elements on our template page to the rest of the blank documents in our web. PageTools makes this easy by allowing you to select the template file, then letting you choose which pages you want to copy it to. Once your list is set-up, click the Apply button, and several seconds later, all of the pages you selected look exactly like your original template! The title and filename is preserved, but all other elements, including <HEAD> information are copied to the blank pages. All that's left is to add your content to each page, and publish the web!
FrontPage 98 allowed us to export files from a FrontPage web site down to our hard drive or floppy. While exporting content may not be something that you use everyday, it does come in handy. I manage several sites that utilize Microsoft Access databases. Once a week or so I like to create backups of the databases in the event something goes wrong. This is a practice that I have been performing for years, and when I first started working with FrontPage 2000, I realized that I could no longer export my MDB files! For a while I kept publishing entire webs just to get the databases, and then I wrote the Export Utility.
Export allows you to download any file within your web site and transfer it to your local hard drive or floppy. There are certain restricted files, such as those in the FPDB folder, or Active Server Pages that can not be exported using this utility. However, since the files that I generally back up are in the FPDB folder, I will show you a quick way of accomplishing the task:
Start FrontPage and open the web site you want to work with. Copy the database from the FPDB folder (or whatever folder you have set up for your database files) into your root folder. Using the export utility, select the destination path (your hard drive) and choose the file(s) you want to export from your FrontPage web. Several seconds later, the files are downloaded! Delete the copy you've made of the database, and close the web.
Theme Copier - This utility was designed for my FrontPage class that I teach at a nearby college. One of the topics of discussion in the class is building your own theme. Most students can never complete their theme in one evening, and many want to work on their theme from home. FrontPage does now allow you to copy or move themes from installation to installation, but using the Theme Copier you can copy and install themes between different installations of FrontPage.
Theme Copier only works with user installed themes, so you won't see "Blank" or "Artsy" in the menu. Using the utility, simply highlight the theme you want to copy, and click on the Copy Theme button. You will be asked for a destination drive / folder, and once selected, your theme is copied. When you get to your other computer, restart the Theme Copier utility and select the Install New Theme option. You'll be prompted for the drive / folder where your theme is saved. Theme Copier will verify that the directory contains a valid theme, then check to make sure that you are not overwriting anything that you already have installed, and then proceed to copy your theme and make it part of FrontPage. You'll need to restart FrontPage before you see your theme in the list under Format, Themes.
Flash SWF Import - Lots of developers are using Macromedia Flash to add animations and interactive content on their web sites. Macromedia Dreamweaver is really the only tool available that will natively incorporate SWF files into a web page and place all of the necessary code for Netscape and IE browsers within the HTML.
Using the Flash Import utility, you can pretty much do the same thing in FrontPage with a few simple steps. Position your cursor where you want your movie to appear. From the Flash SWF Import menu, select the SWF file you want to add to the page. Choose its height, width, and background colour properties, and click Apply. If the Import SWF file option was checked, then your Flash file will automatically be uploaded to your FrontPage web. After the operation is complete, simply save and refresh your document. You should see your Flash animation onscreen!
For our 'Spotlight on FrontPage', this week AccessFP Focuses on the best value for your site this week looking at Carts.
