1. WELCOME FROM TINA
--------------------------------------

AccessFP Discussion
http://anyfrontpage.com/

My aim with this Lite version is to bring you FrontPage goodies, links and news that you can't do without each week. If you have any feedback, suggestions, gripes or compliments, please let me know I really would like your feedback about the ezine's, what do you think of the content? The layout? Do you want more of something or something else included; I need your feedback to find out.

So far only one person has commented on the AccessFP Ezine. The thought was the Guideline section was not needed because most subscribers would be FrontPage users already. My plan was to start from the beginning and work through.

Another thought was including this made the Ezine too long. Let me know YOUR thoughts on the matter before the next monthly issue of AccessFP Ezine comes out. Would you like more tips and tricks? What would you like? Without your help folks, you will be getting what I THINK you want not what YOU want, so pop off that email today:)

I am excited about this weeks article on the care and nurture of page HTML titled...

"Are your Page <title> elements out of position?"

The author shows a subtle pitfall of title tags and how such problems can cost you traffic. In the article, he supplies a link to a free FrontPage Add-on that scans web pages and helps fix such problems (no HTML required). I use this tool on my site and it has saved me enormous amounts of time.

You heard it first, here, at AccessFP Bytes!

HOW TO VERIFY IF A SITE IS LICENSED BY TRUSTe?

How do you verify if a web site is in fact licensed by TRUSTe?

TRUSTe notes that their trustmark should be linked to the site's privacy statement. Once you get to the site's privacy statement page, scroll down and look for the TRUSTe click to verify seal.

All licensees must post the click-to-verify seal on their privacy statements. Clicking on the seal takes you to TRUSTe's secure server and verifies that the site is indeed a legal licensee of TRUSTe. To find out what TRUSTe click-to-verify seal looks like, go to http://www.truste.org/users/users_how.html
and look under TRUSTe Oversight and Resolution.

If you find a violation, let them know, doing so protects Privacy standards for all

If you have a FrontPage Question these are best asked on the AccessFP List where I and other members will attempt to help you.

4 GUEST ARTICLE OR TIP
------------------------------------

Are your Page <title> elements out of position?
-----------------------------------------------
Did you know some Search Engines may lower your page ranking if the <title> element is out of proper position? If you're not aware of this subtle issue, you could be losing traffic.

So, what is proper position? Well, it seems that the <title>
element should occur immediately after the <head> element in
page HTML source code. And since FrontPage provides ways to
avoid direct involvement with source code, it is easy to miss
this problem.

There is no visual clue when this 'position' flaw occurs in your
document HTML -- no outward sign that anything is wrong. The page Title continues to display normally at the top of your Browser.

You can find some info about this in the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base articles.

Q205878 - FP2000: Some FrontPage Content Scores Low with Some Search Engines
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q205/8/78.ASP

Q182805 - FP98: Title Tag Repositioned After the Meta Tag When Saving Page
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q182/8/05.ASP

Other side effects
------------------
I have found that my copy of FrontPage 2000 moves the <title>
element out of position anytime a new Meta Tag is added using
the 'custom' TAB of the Page-Properties Dialog. That would
indicate that anyone using that Dialog to enter and edit Meta
Tags is likely to have page <title> position problems.

I also found that by adding a 'User Meta Tag' via the Page
Properties Dialog, FrontPage does something wonderful -- it
'sorts' the Meta Tags into ascending alphabetical order. This
cleans up the HTML source code, making it much easier to read!
But the bad news is -- your <title> tag gets moved out of first
position, and usually ends up below the group of (now sorted)
Meta Tags.

Big web - big problem
---------------------
The page <title> should be the first element in the <head>
section of HTML. And, as the KB Article above attests, you can
receive a lower rank with some Search Engines if your pages have the <title> tag below the meta tags.

You can determine if your website has this problem by checking
the HTML on just one document - your main page. Confirm that the <title> tag occurs immediately after the <head> tag. If not,
your page probably has the <title> position problem.

If one page has the problem, it is likely that others do too
(those with Dialog added Meta Tags). If you have hundreds of
pages in your web, you may not be happy about the prospect of
opening each one in HTML view and making required changes. The fix can only be accomplished using HTML view of FrontPage or via some other editor.

An easy solution
----------------
There is a free FrontPage 2000 add-in that not only finds this
position flaw in your web pages, it provides an easy way to
restore the <title> to proper alignment -- without the need to
edit HTML.

This tool performs other helpful tasks with Meta Tags and Image
attributes. Get it free, at the following link ....
