2 TIPS AND TRICKS - Bits & Bats
---------------------------------------
If your having trouble logging on to your site and your password and user name won't work, your PC starts crunching away, but you can still get into other folders on the same server with no problem you just may need to delete your dot-web (.web) file.
Do a search on your drive
Start Menu | Find | Files or folders
Insert ".web" (without quotes)
The name of the file will indicate which web it refers to.
Delete the .web file which relates to the Web your having problems with.
Then FrontPage should connect with no problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you want to put a scrolling message in the status line of the browser? You might want to think twice about utilising this.
The status line reflects the url when you mouse over a link which can be very useful. Some people find a scroll distracting in the extreme as well.
A far classier thing to do is use a scrolling message on the web page. However, not going across. Up! Or you could use a timed include page for the latest information available on your web.
Always think twice about bells and whistles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I told you that Netscape does not like spaces and uppercase letters in an url I should have mentioned that Jimco has a case changer available FREE to download, also good for Unix sites that don't like this either. You can obtain the case changer from

3 GUIDE TO FRONTPAGE - "Two web Editors"
-------------------------------------
Want to work with another web editor and FrontPage?
Lets say for our example the other web editor is Dreamweaver.
Create the site with the features you want to utilise in dreamweaver. For example Use layers to design complex, pixel-precise page designs, then convert layers to tables to create pages that work in all browsers.
NOTE: You must first set up your local site i.e. 'Define a site' this means creating a directory to tell DW where the site is, failing to do this may mean most of your links will be broken. - The number one hurdle when learning DW.
So now you have 'Defined' your site, made your pages and saved them in DW, it is time to open the "web" in FrontPage.
File | Open | navigate to the "web" in DW which will probably be something like
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver\mysite\
Next publish the "web" to your usual FrontPage Directory. (Where you keep all your FrontPage webs) EG. this would be c:\inetpub\wwwroot\yoursite or if using a diskbased web C:\My Documents\My Webs\mysite or something similar.
After it is published open a new site in dreamweaver and point the local directory to the path you just published to in FrontPage.
You will then be able to work in DW and FP on the same site and use FrontPage to publish the site or indeed any other Web Editor you wish to use.

Glenn from the AccessFP List has an offer for you, read on.
"It has been a plan of mine to start a website about genre movies (horror, sci-fi, fantasy, etc). But fortunately, with all my other projects off and on line, I found out I need to make this happen with the help of other people. So I am now looking for web designers that are also movie buffs. I recommend that you are a movie buff because this will be work for no pay.
I am looking for almost everything; designers, programmers, writers, reviewers, co-editors, graphic artists, even promoters. I regret that I wont be able to pay anyone, but if you're a newbie and need experience, and a site to show to potential clients, and something to put on your resume, and a nice recommendation from a real company in Norway (Hyperion Media, officially registered with the authorities) - why not consider this offer."
Please write to mailto:glenn@folkvord.net
for further details.

7 VIRTUAL INTERVIEW WITH A MEMBER:
-------------------------------------
This is where we conduct our virtual interview. If you would like to take this interview just cut out the questions fill them in, and send them in an email to:
VI@accessfp.net
This month we interview:
Name - Mark Harding
Age - 36
Nationality - British
Site name - YouthOrg UK
Site address - http://www.youth.org.uk
Email - mark@youth.org.uk
Q How long have you been on the net?
A 4 years
Q What is your site called, when did u start it and what is it about?
A YouthOrg UK is a virtual community for young people and youth workers. It enables members to learn and share from one another about working and learning on the Net. Anyone is welcome to subscribe to its newsletter. I started April 1998.
Q What made you choose this subject and what was the hardest part in making your site?
A I saw there was nothing quite like it but had worked on a community site in the business sector and saw the opportunity for Youth Work. Graphics, I do not have the patience or time to learn. I have ended up with members designing them for me. I also had to redesign the directory structure of the site as it expanded very fast and need some way of limiting the number of files in each directory.
Q What do you think makes your site stand out from the rest?
A It has a real community feel. Members contribute and network through it.
Q Do you have any tips for other members?
A Make sure you have a newsletter. It can reach all those people who forget you are there. You need not need to do to much content for it if you re-publish the content on the site. This saves you time in writing newsletter specific content and helps promote sections of your site whilst helping people access the information from their email box.
Q What are your favourite sites? (Limit of 5)
