HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
We want to wish our very own, most excellent
editor, Frances Stewart a very happy birthday!
February 27th is her day, we hope it was a really
great one this year!
"I mean, what is an un-birthday present?"
"A present given when it isn't your birthday, of
course." Alice considered a little. "I like birthday
presents best," she said at last. "You don't know
what you're talking about!" cried Humpty Dumpty.
"How many days are there in a year?" "Three
hundred and sixty-five," said Alice. "And how
many birthdays have you?"
"One." - Lewis Carroll
Which reminds me...
Would you like your own AnyFrontPage Bytes
Happy Birthday wish? How about a birthday
present from one of our affiliated FrontPage
product vendors? We would like to encourage
you to register your birthday with us and let us
help celebrate your birthday with you. Your
registration will be, of course, completely
confidential and used ONLY for the purpose of
announcing a special birthday wish to you and
awarding a special birthday product to you.
Please register with us at: [ out of date link - removed ]

AnyFrontPage Bytes is delighted to announce a
new feature on our site.
From our first issue, we have been blest with top
quality articles by contributing authors who excel
in their field, their writing talent, and their
generosity toward our readers.
This all started with our contest for our
subscribers to contribute articles, tips and tricks.
(see our DOUBLE OR NOTHING Competition:
Become a Contributing Writer and Win Big!! You
still have a chance to enter and Everyone’s a
WINNER!!
http://www.anyfrontpage.com/bytes/
We commissioned our resident graphics
artist, Tiffany, to design a gold seal that winners
could place on their site stating that they were a
contributing author.
As we do try to keep the Bytes Ezine short and
to the point to make easier reading for our
subscribers, we also keep the author’s credits
short. A simple byline with links to their sites
so that you can learn a little more about them
there.
Some of our webmasters are so busy creating
great web sites, though that they do not have a
biography page on their own site.
Our community is large and growing by the
minute. We don’t all know each other any more
and it is important that we should.
This is the way that new traditions are born. Our
Bytes Ezine will remain concise, but for those
evenings when you do have more time, each of
our contributing authors will be featured on our
Authors page: http://anyfrontpage.com/bytes/authors.asp
When you really like an article and would like to
see more by that special author, our “Search”
feature will scour our archives for you.
It’s exciting to be growing so fast. We thank you.

We LOVE our "I-Love-FrontPage2000-But"
contest so MUCH that we decided to EXTEND
it. We have had a great time thinking up add-ons
we want but we are the editors and can't enter
YOU can. What 'Whip it up in a weekend'
add-on would you LOVE to have named after
you? You know what you like about FP, what
would make it even better?
Tell-a- friend script add-on?
Make this page your homepage add-on?
Search feature to search subwebs too?
How about a add on that creates a built in,
easy to use MouseOver sub menu script?
This is a truly OPEN competition. Feel free to
pass this on to Friends and Colleagues
- anyone can enter!! FAME AWAITS - Don't
Delay Your Entry - Go straight to: [ out of date link - removed ]

TIPS AND TRICKS
FRONTPAGE FORM FIELD NAMES
Save yourself a lot of headache and time by
making sure you do not have spaces in your
FP form field names. Get in the habit early on in
naming your form fields using single words,
underscore separators or no spaces between
words in the name.
Don't = Street Address
DO = Street_Address
DO = StreetAddress
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOW TO MAKE A VERTICAL LINE
Make a table with 3 cells
Make a 1X1pixel transparent gif
Configure the width of the middle cell to one and
the background to the colour of choice.
Insert your 1x1 gif This will make vertical line
between the two cells and separate your content.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HIDE FILES FROM SEARCH RESULTS AND
SITE INDEX
Pages stored in a folder with the underscore
before the name, such as _private, will not be
placed in your site index or search results.
Pages that are moved to a _private folder and still
showing up in the site index or search results, or
pages that have been deleted from your web and
still show up can be eliminated from the site
index by recalculating your hyperlinks in the web.
Look in your TOOLS menu for the recalculate
hyperlinks option.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back to Basics Reminder on navigation, layout
and graphics continuity within a website.
We have been very excited about themes and
templates lately. They are a marvelous
addition to our arsenal. Sometimes,
rediscovering an old web trick can be just as
exciting though.
Remember our ‘include pages’? (One of my big
breakthroughs was discovering that I could ‘nest’
those includes all into one include page.) Keep
them in mind as we talk about Virtual Includes.
You can split your existing pages into separate
files and then create a single page using a series
of the files that you have created. This allows
you to make changes to one file, and have those
changes appear across all pages of your site.
(This could be a header file containing a news
feed or a banner script, or a menu file containing
a table of hyperlinks, or a footer file containing
copyright information.)
For virtual Includes, you will need to know the
platform your host server runs on and if your web
server can handle them. IIS and Apache allow
this by default, but your system administrator
should verify that this form of scripting is
available to your site.:
**On NT (Microsoft's IIS Web Server), you can
use .asp file extensions in place of .htm or .html
files. Example:
<!--#include file="header.asp"-->
HTML code for the page file
<!--#include file="footer.asp"-->
**On Linux (Apache Web Server), you can
create .php files. Example:
<? include("header.php"); ?>
HTML code for the page file
<? include("footer.php"); ?>
or, if you are running SSI instead of PHP
SSI Server Side Includes
<!--#include virtual="header.shtml"-->
The header and footer are separate files that
reside in The root directory of your server. It has
separate files for Header and Footer. For
example, "header.asp" and footer.asp” consist of
blocks of code that will display as the top and
bottom of your page. So, if your page is
“index.asp”, its program would request the
header and the footer, from the server to display
with the index file itself. The browser display
would show a page based on the three files
involved. (You don’t have to limit yourself or your
page to only these three files.)
One change to an include file (such as the
header) and all pages that call for this file are
automatically updated. Multi-page site
maintenance just became a snap!!
