GENERALLY SPEAKING

  ~ AnyFrontPage Bytes News:

Sometimes we celebrate together, sometimes it
involves different celebrations. Rarely does
AnyFrontPage find its readers so diversified as
this month.

A once in (our) lifetime event is the Celebration
of the Queen's Jubilee on June 3rd. Plans
include free concerts at Buckingham Palace,
special programming for the BBC, construction
of a Jubilee Covered Bridge (the first covered
bridge over the river Thames since 1166), street
parties and the lighting of beacons and bonfires
throughout the UK. The official Jubilee website
is

that Her Majesty the Queen likes birthdays as
much as AnyFrontPage - those born on the
Queen's Accession Day, 6 February 1952, are
invited to Golden Jubilee parties, hosted by The
Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

The third Sunday in June is Fathers Day for our
US subscribers. Other countries celebrate
throughout the year. Happy Fathers Day!!

MICROSOFT® FRONTPAGE® BREAKING
NEWS

A new page/section has been added to the
official FrontPage website community,
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/community/related.htm
sites! You will find our very own AnyFrontPage
site listed as one of the very first 5 sites to start
this great new resource for FrontPage users.
Does it stop there? Oh, my, No! The top three
sites (yes - out of five) just happen to be
AnyFrontPage plus our own editors' sites:
Tina's AccessFP.net and Tiffany's
At-FrontPage.com. We strive to bring you the
best - and the results are noticed!! The "Related
Communities for FrontPage" was launched on
May 30th, 2002 - we are proud to be in the very
first listing of FrontPage Communities.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Microsoft also used our own FrontPage Talk
( http://www.frontpagetalk.com ) this month as
an example of a great tool for
community-building. It was cited as a
"Subject-oriented forum for users of the
FrontPage Web site creation and management
tool"
http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/community/columns/edcolumn01.htm
Quite a mouthful - but we know what they mean.
TIPS AND TRICKS
HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR HOST HAS
FRONTPAGE EXTENSIONS INSTALLED.
Launch your browser and type in
http://www.yoursite.com/_vti_inf.html
(Insert your site address where it says yoursite)
If that page comes up, the server extensions are
installed. You can do a View | Source on the
page to see which version is running.
TIP BY: Kathleen Anderson
Spider Web Woman Designs
http://www.spiderwebwoman.com/resources/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

CANNOT SEE CSS RESULTS IN PREVIEW
PANE.

When using cascading style sheets that are
defined in a separate .css file and linked into an
HTML file, FP will ignore it in the 'Preview Pane'.
In 'Normal View and when viewing the page in
any browser, all is fine.

This behavior is due to the latest IE6 Security
Download. Uninstalling the Security Download is
the only fix so far.

FATHERS DAY THEME WEBSITE
By Deborah Miller
http://www.themesindesign.com

Father's Day will soon be here. Still
looking for a perfect gift for dad? How about his
very own web site?

With the many unique template and theme
designs offered by many talented artists,
creating a site for dad can be easy. All that is
required from you is doing some research on
your dads past and current life then adding it to
the pages in the web template.

For an interesting effect, you can have several
pages update themselves with pictures and text.
This can be accomplished by using one of the
components in FrontPage.

Here is what you need to do:

Gather information and pictures of different
events in your dad's life. For Example, when he
was a young boy, when he graduated, when he
met your mother, when they got married, etc.

Sort out the information according to dates. Try
to get several pictures of these different events.
Write down dates, times and places.

Now let's say you have several pictures of your
dad as a young boy. Scan the pictures and
optimize them for faster loading. Write a short
story about each picture.

Create a New Web in FrontPage using a web
template that you brought or start from scratch.
Create your pages according to the different
topics you are going to write about regarding
your dad. For example you could have:

1. Home Page
2. About Dad
3. Dad Growing Up
4. Dad and Mom
5. Dad, Mom and Kids
6. Dad's Hobbies

Now create 2 NEW folders and name them
"Include Pages" & "Include Pictures". These
folders can be used to store all your extra
pictures and text pages.

Start with a new page and write short stories
about different events in your dad's life and save
these pages in the folder called "Include Pages".
You can also add pictures on these pages.
Import your pictures and save them in the
"Include Pictures" folders.

Starting on the topic of your choice, design the
page with pictures and a matching story. Now,
using the "Scheduling Feature" in FrontPage,
you can have the pictures and stories change
monthly or weekly in different areas of your
page. By using tables you can define different
sections of your page to update differently.

Create your tables and make notes to yourself
where and what you want to add pictures, text
or have a certain area update. On the toolbar in
FrontPage go to "Insert - Component -
Scheduled Picture. Browse to the picture you
want to appear. Set the starting time and
ending time for this picture. Keep doing this for
different areas on your pages.

In a different area on your page you can use the
"Scheduled Include Page" to appear on a certain
date. For example, how about the day you were
born? Design an include page with your baby
picture and story, and then set the date for it to
appear on your birthday.

Does this sound confusing? Let's take another
look at using the "Scheduling Feature"

Take a blank piece of page and fold it in half and
then fold it in half again. Now, open up the page
and you will have four sections. Draw a line
down the middle and across the center to give
you four sections. Pretend it is a page on your
Dad's web site. In one section you can have a
picture and have that picture change on a
certain date. On a different section you can have
a story and then have the story change on a
different date. You still have two more sections.
You can leave them blank, merge it together to
make a bigger area, or add pictures or text that
you don't want to change. You can also use
these areas to schedule more pictures or text to
update by it's self.

To help you with creating a web site for your
father I'm going to offer a free Father's Day Web
Template. You may use this template to create
a web site for your dad to wish him a Happy
Fathers Day. This will be available from the time
you read your newsletter to the end of June.

Enjoy and happy creating.

Alt-Text for Image Maps - UPDATED
http://www.jimcoaddins.com/
Jimco Alt-Text for Image Maps has been
updated and replaced by a new add-in called
Jimco Hotspot Tooltips. Hotspot Tooltips uses
the Title attribute instead of the Alt attribute to
add popup tooltips to your image maps.

This new add-in also fixes a couple of problems
in the original add-in, most notably the message
that informs you that you are still editing an
image map when you attempt to close a page.
