For those of you who noticed or might be
interested to know, we have said goodbye to our
archive forums on AnyFrontPage. Or we should
say that CHAOS said goodbye for us (grin).
One of the main reasons we gladly merged with
FrontPage World on our forums
( http://frontpagetalk.com ) was to pool our
resources and ensure the best security. A hole
in an old release of the snitz forums enabled a
hacker (CHAOS) to take down our archived
forums. We are happy to report that FrontPage
talk was not and will not be affected! We are
also happy to report that our fantastic technical
team at FrontPage talk is setting aside time
soon to begin upgrading our forums to the latest,
greatest and most secure - we will enjoy all the
fun benefits of this upgrade soon!

TIPS AND TRICKS
Broken links that don't exist.
Broken Links Report can sometimes report that
you have a broken hyperlink and yet the link
does not appear to exist.
This can occur if you press Shift + Enter instead
of the spacebar to make the link clickable.
FrontPage will put a closing tag after the page
break not before it so the code will look like the
following:
<a href="index.htm">Home<br></a>
If you decided to delete the text 'Home' the link
will be left behind.
<a href="index.htm"><br></a>
As a result, you might think you have deleted
the link, but it's actually still lurking in the code,
and you will have to go into html view to delete
it.

FUN WITH AUTO THUMBNAIL IN FP
Have nice big images that you want to add to
your web pages, but don't want to add too much
to your page load time? If you haven't already,
you might want to give the Auto-Thumbnail
feature a whirl.
Drag and drop your full size graphic on your
page where you want it and then (with the image
selected) press Ctrl+T (or go to TOOLS > AUTO
THUMBNAIL). FrontPage will resize your original
graphic and add a hyperlink from the small one
to the original one. When you save the page,
FrontPage will prompt you to save the small
image (make sure that FP is saving it to the
folder you would like the small image saved in.
You can change the folder to which it is saved in
the dialog box)
You can change the settings applied to the
small image with auto thumbnail. TOOLS >
PAGE OPTIONS > Click the Auto Thumbnail
tab: In this dialog box, you can change the
pixel number and apply that pixel number to the
width, height or longest side of the image. You
can add a beveled edge and a border size to the
thumbnail image.
Remember that the link from the thumbnail
image points directly to the original image. If you
want more control over the page background the
full size image displays on then you can add the
full size image to a new page and change the
hyperlink from the thumbnail image to the new
page with the full size image. You can go one
step further and even create a link from the
thumbnail image that opens the new page with
the full size image in a pop up window that has
a specific size and even eliminates the address
bar, toolbars of the browser and all. See this
issues featured site for a great FP 2002
PopUpWindow component.

Meet Simon Haddad, maker of SimonBots
FrontPage 2002 Web Components! SimonBots
use the power and flexibility of Internet Explorer
and it's proprietary technologies (ActiveX,
JavaScript, VBScript, DHTML, etc.) to develop
cross-browser solutions for the web through MS
FrontPage 2002.
Simon Haddad took a web design course in
college, and found that because of FrontPage
2000, he really enjoyed it. Seeing a lot of
features, JavaScript for one, that weren't built in
to FrontPage, he began trying his hand at
making some in VBA (macros). The rest is
history!
Like so many of our up-and-coming
programmers, Simon is self taught. Starting with
the FPSDK from Microsoft, Simon soon found
that JavaScript and VBScript had to be learned
on his own "which I did, over years with my nose
in whatever books I could get my hands on" he
said.
We were privileged to have an online interview
with Simon Haddad, here is a snip from our
interview:
AnyFrontPage: What are remotely hosted
components?
simonhaddad: Its a web page, plain and simple,
with an added permission... It can read existing
FrontPage Web Components, aside from that,
it's a normal web page. The way it works is you
either insert a component by clicking Insert >>
Web Component...
simonhaddad: or edit one that is already on the
page. A pseudo-browser window will open up to
the web page defined by the component...
