Please note: The Latest issues of the Microsoft FrontPage
Bulletin Archives E-Book are now available for download at http://anyfrontpage.com/bytes/ebooks/ (November Issue)
November 6th last year was the day AccessFP
Ezine was launched (now known of course as
AnyFrontPage Bytes) and Nov 30th was the day
we moved from Topica to YahooGroups. So this
issue is in the way of being a first year birthday for
many original members. We would like to thank
our members for being loyal and we hope to see
you all with us next year along with many new
faces.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANYFRONTPAGE BYTES!
In FrontPage - you can add the target in the insert
hyperlink dialog box:
FP2000:
Under the address box is the "optional" section of
the dialog box click the pencil icon to bring up the
target frame dialog box and choose "New Window"
from the menu. Click the OK button.
FP2002:
Click the Target Frame button on the right of the
insert hyperlink dialog box and choose "New
Window" from the menu. Click the OK button.
This will insert target="_blank" into your tag, which
will open the link in a new browser window:
NOTE: One should do this for each link and not
tick the 'set as page default' box in the 'Target
Frame' dialog box as this will also make your own
site links pop up. This is not a good idea for your
own links (your pages in your site). It should only
be used for outside links to other sites
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HOW TO PERMANENTLY DELETE FRONTPAGE 2000 THEMES
Go to: Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Themes in Windows Explorer and look in
the list for the themes you don't want. You can
then right click and press delete. Additionally, if
you are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or
Microsoft Windows 2000, themes can also be
stored in individual folders for each user in the
following location: %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Themes
Ugly fonts help Webmasters save Face
====================================
Do your pages have a mind of their own when it
comes to fonts? Does your site look okay until you
publish? When you view your site from another
PC, does it seem that the fonts changed? If so,
what the heck is going on?
The answer to this dilemma is likely due to -
default- font settings. Hang on to your propeller-
hat and check this out.
Trouble in Font City
===================
As you develop content using FrontPage, you
expect that what you see is what you'll get - but
sometimes this may not be completely true where
fonts are concerned. The reason has to do with
several related facts;
* FACT-1:
FrontPage has a *default* font to render text when
font control information is NOT specified - active
in 'normal' editor mode.
* FACT-2:
Your IE browser has a *default* font to render text
then font control information is NOT specified --
active in FrontPage 'preview' editor mode and web
browsing!
* FACT-3:
These -defaults- have nothing to do with what your
visitors see when *they* view your pages. You
have to consider what *their* default browser fonts
are set to (including size) - it could be very
different from what you would use!
Think those facts over long and hard. Default fonts
are used when font-control information is
(missing)!
Things to NOT do with fonts
===========================
If you set FrontPage to use a default font that is
the *same* as what you use in your pages, you
won't spot any font-control problems!
If your browser default font is the *same* as used
in your pages, you won't spot font-control
problems checking your site on the web! You'll
have blinders on and you may be lulled into
thinking all is well.
Get UGLY
========
To get around this nasty set of circumstances, try
setting both FrontPage and your browser to use
*ugly* default fonts.
Choose fonts NOT to your liking and then check
your pages.
Any problems should be easy to spot (they'll be
ugly)
If you don't use CSS or themes, you may be -
appalled- at what has been hiding in plain sight.
UGLY: default setups to save Face
================================
In FrontPage, the setup is: TOOLS | PAGE
OPTIONS | [default font TAB]. Set the default
proportional font to something *ugly*.
In IE, the setup is: TOOLS | INTERNET OPTIONS
| [Fonts Button]. Set the default Web Page font to
the same *ugly* font chosen above.
Thereafter, when things start to look ugly on a
page you're editing, you'll know to highlight that
section of text and set its font Face and Size. Your
visitors will see your content as you intended.
Tag Inspector Add-In - NEW PRODUCT
http://anyfrontpage.com/rd/tag.htm
Microsoft FrontPage is a great tool for designing
web sites. There are times, however, when the
steps required to modify an HTML element are
cumbersome. For example, to modify the VALIGN
of a table cell, you would have to click in the cell,
right click, find Cell Properties on the menu, and
then adjust the vertical alignment. With the Tag
Inspector for FrontPage, as soon as you click in
the cell, the Tag Inspector will be filled with all the
attributes of the cell, allowing you "one click"
modification of the VALIGN property. There is a
30-day trial available BUY for $24.95 (USD).
