Did you know that among the many templates
included in FrontPage is a custom confirmation
page template? Did you know that you can
create a custom confirmation page to be used
with any form you have within your FrontPage
web? It's true and it is very easy to work with,
create or customize to work with the theme of
your FrontPage web!
One of the reasons why I often chose to use a
third party form handler even with my FrontPage
extended webs is because most third party form
handlers allow you to create a custom
confirmation page that matches the theme of
your existing web, but the FrontPage forms
generate a generic confirmation page when the
form is submitted that doesn't look so great
and only offers a link back to the form. I was
stunned to realize that I could easily create a
custom confirmation form in FrontPage that
actually populates the results or values as
entered by the site visitor in the confirmation
page all within FrontPage. How could I have
missed such a fantastic feature?
If you choose to create a confirmation page from
the confirmation form template then FrontPage
will create a new page with the default
confirmation fields. If you have a theme in use
on your site and/or shared borders for all
pages then FrontPage will create the new page
with the theme and the shared borders you have
selected for all pages. From there, you can
modify and customize the page to fit your
needs. For instance, you may add or delete any
confirmation field you would like on the page,
add links to other pages in the web, add
graphics or change the wording of the default
confirmation page. The FrontPage confirmation
form is set up to confirm the fields of the default
feedback form, so if you are creating a
confirmation page for a custom form or a
modified FrontPage feedback form then you
would want to ensure that the confirmation form
fields match the fields of the form itself.
You may also create a custom confirmation
page without using the confirmation form
template by simply adding confirmation fields to
an existing page template that you may already
have set up. Layout your own confirmation page
by inserting each confirmation field manually the
actual steps to do this vary slightly between
FrontPage 2000 and FrontPage 2002, but the
overall concept is the same (see the following
URL for tutorials on creating and customizing
the FrontPage confirmation form).
If you are authoring FrontPage webs that use
forms of any type, have fun with the confirmation
form! It is a great way to enhance the overall
professionalism and appearance of your Web
site.
